The Ogun State Police Command has arrested 11 suspects and recovered 25 Automated Teller Machine cards, three firearms and two suspected stolen vehicles during an 11-day security operation across the state.
The command said the arrests and recoveries were recorded between September 16 and 26, 2026, following coordinated operations by personnel from various police divisions and the Special Weapons and Tactics unit.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed the development in a statement, saying the operations were part of efforts to strengthen security and tackle criminal activities across the state.
One of the major arrests involved a 45-year-old man, Ameachine Anthony, who was apprehended in Igbesa over an alleged N2.5 million fraud case. Police said 25 ATM cards and several mobile phones were recovered from him.
According to the command, preliminary investigations into Anthony’s activities allegedly uncovered a scheme involving the use of utility bills and newly acquired SIM cards obtained through associates to facilitate the opening of bank accounts. The police alleged that the ATM cards were subsequently collected and used for fraudulent transactions.
Anthony and the recovered exhibits were transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.
In another operation on September 21, SWAT operatives attached to Base 7, Abule-Iroko, arrested three suspects after intercepting an unregistered tricycle and a TVS motorcycle around Dalemo, Ota.
The suspects were identified as 30-year-old Olamide Ayandele, 40-year-old Tope Samuel and 30-year-old Ayo Peter Ojo. Police said preliminary investigations linked them to alleged vehicle theft around the Ijoko axis.
The command also reported the arrest of two suspected cult members following intelligence about a suspected cult gathering. The suspects were identified as 34-year-old Peter Olanrewaju and 36-year-old Adebayo Sodiq.
Police said one pump-action rifle and two locally made pistols were recovered during the operation. Investigators are working to establish how the suspects came into possession of the firearms and determine whether other individuals were involved.
At Mokoloki Village, detectives attached to the Owode-Egba Division recovered a stolen commercial TVS motorcycle following a complaint lodged by its owner. Two suspects, Rasheed Abdul and Saula Meshinoye, were arrested in connection with the alleged theft, while another suspected accomplice, identified as Saheed, remained at large.
Meanwhile, two other suspects, Mutiu Gafar, 19, and Fatai Obasanmi, 37, were arrested in the Olorunda area after police allegedly intercepted three individuals transporting stolen electrical materials along Ayetoro Road.
The recovered items included bundles of electrical wiring, a change-over electrical box and a circuit breaker box. One suspect, identified as Tosin, reportedly escaped.
Police detectives also recovered a Safira vehicle allegedly stolen from its owner and arrested a suspect, Olatunji Olalekan, following an investigation by officers attached to the Ijebu-Ode Area Crime Office.
Separately, personnel of the Sagamu Area Command and adjoining divisions impounded eight vehicles during a “No Parking” enforcement operation around the Sagamu Interchange Bridge. Police said the vehicles were allegedly obstructing the highway and would be processed for prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Bode Ojajuni, commended the officers involved in the operations and urged residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information to security agencies.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to proactive policing and maintaining security across the state.
The latest operations come as the Ogun police continue to rely on intelligence gathering, targeted interventions and public cooperation to address crimes ranging from fraud and vehicle theft to cultism and illegal possession of firearms.
The suspects remain subject to investigation, and allegations against them have not been established by a court.
