Ikeja, Lagos. October 16, 2026** —
The Labour Party governorship candidate in Lagos State, Rotimi Odunaike, has officially launched his campaign with a promise to restructure governance, address infrastructural decay and make the state work for all residents.
The campaign flag-off, held in Ikeja, attracted the party’s National Chairman, Senator Nenadi Usman, members of the National Working Committee and other party stakeholders.
Speaking at the event, Odunaike said his administration, if elected, would prioritise the needs of ordinary Lagos residents, arguing that the state’s development since the return to democracy in 1999 had largely favoured a privileged few.
Under the campaign slogan, **“A New Lagos For All,”** the candidate pledged to tackle the state’s infrastructural challenges and address the shortage of adequate social amenities.
“I will fix Lagos. Our slogan is ‘A New Lagos For All’. This is not just a mere slogan, but a determination to put the people at the centre of my administration,” Odunaike declared.
He added that he and his running mate, Prince Lateef Adenkule Adele, were committed to building a Lagos where development and public services would benefit residents across the state.
Odunaike also promised that his administration would begin addressing the identified challenges from the day of his swearing-in, should he win the governorship election.
Candidate unveils 162-page manifesto
A major highlight of the campaign launch was the unveiling of Odunaike’s 162-page manifesto, titled *Our Covenant With the People of Lagos*.
The document outlines the candidate’s proposed policy direction and a step-by-step approach to addressing the challenges confronting Lagos State.
The manifesto is expected to serve as the policy framework for the Labour Party’s campaign, although the specific proposals and implementation timelines were not detailed in the statement announcing the flag-off.
Nenadi Usman calls for unity
In her remarks, Labour Party National Chairman Senator Nenadi Usman urged party leaders and members in Lagos to unite behind the governorship candidate, warning that internal divisions could undermine the party’s electoral prospects.
She challenged the state chapter to surpass the party’s performance in the 2023 general elections, expressing confidence that a united organisation could strengthen its grassroots appeal.
“I charge you to surpass the feat the Labour Party recorded in 2023. I am certain that, with unity of purpose, you can achieve this because the Labour Party is a party of the grassroots in Lagos State,” Usman said.
Her remarks underscored the importance of internal cohesion as the party seeks to consolidate its structures and mobilise supporters ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Labour Party highlights Odunaike’s experience
The party presented Odunaike as a banking and finance expert, entrepreneur and professional with interests in agriculture, technology and artificial intelligence.
It also cited his previous tenure as chairman of the Labour Party in Lagos State as evidence of his leadership and administrative experience.
According to the party, Odunaike assumed the state leadership at a period of internal crisis but subsequently worked to reconcile opposing factions and reposition the organisation.
The campaign launch marks a new phase in the Labour Party’s efforts to challenge the existing political order in Lagos, a state where electoral competition has remained a defining feature of the Fourth Republic.
With his pledge to “fix Lagos” and the unveiling of a detailed manifesto, Odunaike faces the task of translating his campaign promises into practical policies capable of convincing voters that his proposed *New Lagos for All* can deliver measurable improvements in infrastructure, public services and inclusive development.
