Northern Backlash Erupts as APC Campaigns Face Open Rejection Ahead of 2027

Sokoto, Nigeria.

Emerging reports from parts of northern Nigeria indicate rising hostility toward campaign activities by members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), with several incidents suggesting growing public discontent ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In Sokoto State, a campaign visit reportedly turned confrontational as some youths resisted the presence of APC members, chanting in Hausa and throwing sand in protest. The chant “Ba mu so” — loosely translating to “we don’t want [it] again” — echoed during the incident, reflecting visible frustration among sections of the community.
Similar episodes have been reported in Kano, Kebbi, Zamfara, Kaduna, and Adamawa States, where campaign activities are said to have faced varying degrees of disruption. While these incidents point to pockets of dissatisfaction, the overall scale and consistency across the region remains subject to independent verification.
Adding a cultural dimension to the unfolding political climate, a trending Hausa song titled “Pele Daya” (meaning “One Term”) has reportedly gained traction in Kano amid ongoing political tensions involving Abba Kabir Yusuf and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. The song is said to carry a political undertone, with interpretations suggesting a call for a single-term tenure.
Supporters of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) have reportedly embraced the song, adopting it as a rallying chant at campaign events across parts of northern Nigeria, including the Federal Capital Territory.
Political observers note that music and popular culture have long played a role in shaping political messaging and public engagement in Nigeria. However, analysts caution that while such trends may reflect emerging sentiments among segments of the population, the broader electoral impact will depend on evolving political dynamics as the 2027 elections draw closer.
