The Niger State chapter of the Coalition for the Protection of Democracy (COPDEM) has issued a firm disclaimer dissociating itself from a purported “official entrance ceremony” into the African Democratic Congress (ADC) allegedly linked to its structures and allied movements.
In a statement released to the press, Niger State COPDEM made it unequivocally clear that Joshua Bawa does not represent COPDEM, the Obidient Family or the Labour Party in any capacity whatsoever, and therefore lacks the authority to convene, announce, or speak on behalf of the movement or its partners.
The coalition further disclosed that the same Joshua Bawa was expelled from the Labour Party after the 2023 general elections, following an overwhelming vote of no confidence by party members. According to COPDEM, the decision was driven by widespread dissatisfaction with his conduct, which created deep disaffection among party members and undermined collective efforts during the electoral period.
COPDEM called on its members, supporters, and the general public to completely disregard the said announcement, describing it as misleading, unauthorized, and calculated to cause confusion. The coalition reaffirmed that its legitimate political engagement and mobilization efforts in Niger State are ongoing and are being pursued transparently in collaboration with the ADC leadership under Hon. Musa Hassan.
Reflecting on lessons from the 2023 electoral cycle, COPDEM stated that the experience strengthened its resolve and vigilance. The coalition emphasized that Niger State COPDEM and its allied Obidient family will not be misled again by political opportunists seeking relevance, influence, or financial gain at the expense of collective struggle.
Looking ahead, the coalition reaffirmed that its political focus is firmly fixed on 2027, stressing that its support will only be extended to credible, disciplined, and genuinely prepared candidates who are ready to contest elections and uphold democratic values. COPDEM warned that it will no longer tolerate the misuse of its structures for political adventurism.
Reiterating its commitment, Niger State COPDEM confirmed that the ADC-building process remains active, structured, and uncompromised, urging members to remain united, focused, and committed to the protection of democracy and accountable leadership.
The statement concluded with appreciation to members for their resilience and dedication, calling for continued discipline and unity as the coalition advances its democratic mandate.
