NDC, Kwankwasiyya Camp Reportedly Woo APC Chairman’s Aide in Kano

Fresh political maneuvering is reportedly unfolding in Kano State as the Kwankwasiyya political bloc, working through the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), is said to be making strategic moves to convince Mustapha Bala Dawaki to contest for the Dawakin-Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency seat under its platform ahead of the 2027 elections.

Dawaki currently serves as Chief of Staff to the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Goshwe, making the reported move politically sensitive within the ruling party.

According to multiple party sources, the strategy is linked to growing dissatisfaction surrounding the APC primary process in the constituency, amid allegations that political interests aligned with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf are working against Dawaki’s political ambition.

The Dawakin-Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency has increasingly emerged as one of the most closely watched political battlegrounds in Kano State ahead of the next election cycle.

Sources familiar with the development claimed the NDC sees Dawaki as a politically valuable figure whose possible defection could significantly embarrass the APC nationally because of his close relationship with the party’s national leadership.

One source reportedly described the situation as potentially damaging to the APC’s image if a senior aide to the party chairman were denied a ticket under controversial circumstances and subsequently embraced by an opposition platform.

Reports from the APC primary process in the constituency have also alleged irregularities, manipulation, and rigging, claims that have reportedly fueled resentment among Dawaki’s supporters.

Political observers note that Dawaki remains one of the most experienced politicians from the constituency, having previously served three terms in the House of Representatives and chaired the influential House Committee on Appropriations during the 8th National Assembly.

He is also regarded as academically accomplished, holding qualifications from Bayero University Kano as well as postgraduate degrees from institutions in the United Kingdom.

In contrast, the aspirant reportedly favored by forces aligned with the Kano State government, Shu’aibu Rabiu, currently serves as a first-term member of the Kano State House of Assembly representing Dawakin-Kudu State Constituency.

Analysts believe the situation could deepen internal tensions within the APC in Kano if Dawaki eventually accepts overtures from the NDC and the Kwankwasiyya movement.

As of the time of reporting, efforts to obtain official comments from Dawaki or the APC leadership regarding the alleged political moves had reportedly been unsuccessful.

The unfolding developments further underscore the intense political realignments currently shaping Kano politics as parties and political blocs reposition themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
