Bayern Munich and Germany midfielder Jamal Musiala has reassured supporters that he is doing well after revealing that he has been diagnosed with brief, temporary and treatable absence seizures linked to a neurological dysfunction.
The 23-year-old made the disclosure after collapsing during Bayern Munich’s pre-season friendly against Heidenheim on Tuesday, his second such incident within four days. Musiala was introduced as a substitute and was forced to leave the pitch just minutes later after appearing dazed and requiring medical attention. Bayern eventually won the match 4-2.
The latest incident followed a similar episode during Bayern’s 3-1 friendly victory over RB Leipzig on Saturday. The repeated collapses had raised concerns among supporters about the German international’s health, particularly after he had already endured a lengthy recovery from a serious ankle injury suffered during the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
However, Musiala moved quickly to calm those fears, explaining that he is receiving medical care and remains optimistic about his recovery.
“First things first, I am doing well,” the Bayern star said in a message to fans. He expressed gratitude for the numerous messages of support and said he understood why the incidents had caused concern.
Musiala explained that doctors had diagnosed him with brief and temporary absence seizures caused by a neurological dysfunction. According to the player, the episodes can result in incidents such as the collapses witnessed during the matches against Leipzig and Heidenheim.
Despite the alarming appearance of the episodes, Musiala said there was no further health risk involved and that he was under the care of medical specialists.
“I am receiving excellent medical care and remain very optimistic,” he said, while acknowledging the support he has received from Bayern Munich, his personal team and those around him.
The midfielder also revealed that he had discussed his condition closely with neurological experts. With medical clearance, he said he wanted to continue doing what contributes positively to his recovery, including living his life normally and pursuing his passion for football.
His comments suggest that, at least for now, the condition is being managed under medical supervision rather than forcing him to step away permanently from the sport.
Bayern sporting director Max Eberl had already attempted to ease concerns following Tuesday’s match, saying the club was aware of Musiala’s condition and that the player would discuss it publicly when ready.
Musiala’s latest health update is particularly significant given his importance to Bayern and the German national team. The attacking midfielder has established himself as one of Europe’s leading young footballers and remains a key figure in Bayern’s plans for the new season.
His recent health difficulties come after a challenging period in which he spent months recovering from the serious leg injury sustained against Paris Saint-Germain at the 2025 Club World Cup.
The latest diagnosis, however, has provided supporters with greater clarity about the incidents that occurred during Bayern’s pre-season matches.
While questions remain about Musiala’s availability for upcoming competitive fixtures, the player’s reassurance is likely to ease some of the immediate anxiety surrounding his health.
For now, Musiala says he remains positive, supported by his club and medical team, and determined to continue his football career while following specialist advice.
The football world will continue to monitor his progress, but his latest message is clear: despite the frightening scenes on the pitch, he is receiving treatment and remains optimistic about returning to normal football activities.
