LAMBATA, Niger State — Traffic along the Lambata–Suleja Road has been disrupted after residents of Lambata in Gurara Local Government Area of Niger State reportedly blocked the highway in a fierce demand for ₦500 from the driver of a trailer conveying scrap materials.
Several commuters and motorists have reportedly been stranded as residents prevented the trailer from proceeding, insisting that the driver must pay the demanded ₦500.
Witnesses said the situation became tense as residents were heard declaring that they were prepared to maintain the blockade for as long as one week if their demand was not met.
The development has caused significant inconvenience to road users along the busy Lambata–Suleja corridor, with motorists reportedly caught in the resulting traffic gridlock.
The immediate circumstances surrounding the residents’ demand and whether authorities have intervened to restore traffic flow were not immediately clear.
Commuters and motorists using the route are advised to exercise caution and monitor developments as efforts to resolve the dispute are awaited.
