Group Raises Concern Over INEC Actions, Expresses Support for ADC Leadership

A political group, the Rescue Nigeria Alliance, has expressed concern over recent actions of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), warning that such developments could undermine Nigeria’s multiparty democracy.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, April 7, 2025, and signed by its National Chairman, Dr. Basil Chudi Nwolisa, and National Secretary, Comrade Akor Christian Oche, the group said it held a high-level meeting with the leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) before issuing its position.

The group alleged that INEC’s decision to derecognise certain ADC officials, despite ongoing judicial proceedings, was “deeply troubling” and could be interpreted as inconsistent with its constitutional mandate. It urged the electoral body to maintain neutrality and avoid actions that could be perceived as partisan.

The statement further declared support for the ADC leadership under David Mark, affirming that the party remains committed to lawful political engagement ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Rescue Nigeria Alliance called on INEC to immediately restore institutional neutrality, comply strictly with constitutional provisions and court rulings, and avoid actions that could undermine opposition parties or political pluralism.

It also warned that civil society and concerned citizens would continue to monitor developments closely, stressing that any further perceived compromise of democratic principles would be strongly resisted.

The group emphasized that the credibility of Nigeria’s democracy depends on a transparent, impartial, and lawful electoral process, urging all stakeholders to uphold the rule of law.
