Four security operatives have been killed, while a Nigerian Army soldier has been declared missing following an armed attack on Tudun Bicci community in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
According to security sources, the attack occurred when armed assailants launched an assault on the community, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire with security personnel deployed to the area.
The confrontation resulted in the deaths of four operatives, while one soldier was reported missing after the operation. Search and rescue efforts are ongoing to determine the whereabouts of the missing serviceman.
Authorities have yet to release the identities of the deceased personnel pending notification of their families and completion of official procedures.
Security agencies have commenced investigations into the incident and have deployed additional personnel to the affected area to strengthen security and prevent further attacks.
Military and other security operatives are also conducting search operations aimed at tracking down the attackers and recovering the missing soldier.
The latest incident underscores the persistent security challenges facing parts of northwestern Nigeria, where armed criminal groups have continued to carry out attacks on communities, security formations and travelers.
In recent years, Kebbi State and neighboring states have experienced recurring incidents involving armed banditry, cattle rustling, kidnappings for ransom and attacks on rural settlements, prompting intensified military operations across the region.
Security experts note that assaults targeting security personnel are intended to weaken the operational capacity of law enforcement agencies and create fear among local communities.
They stress that sustained intelligence gathering, improved inter-agency coordination and enhanced surveillance are critical to dismantling criminal networks operating in vulnerable areas.
Residents of Tudun Bicci have reportedly expressed concern over the attack, calling for increased security presence and additional measures to protect lives and property.
The incident has also renewed calls for stronger collaboration between security agencies and local communities through timely intelligence sharing to improve early warning and rapid response capabilities.
Authorities have appealed to members of the public to remain vigilant and provide credible information that could assist ongoing operations to apprehend the perpetrators.
As investigations continue, the Federal Government and security agencies have reiterated their commitment to restoring peace in affected communities and ensuring that those responsible for the attack are identified and brought to justice.
The deaths of the four operatives serve as another reminder of the sacrifices made by Nigeria’s security personnel in confronting armed criminal groups and maintaining national security amid evolving security threats.
