Diaspora Group Urges Mexico To Reject Reno Omokri As Ambassador, Labels Him ‘Pathological Liar’

A Nigerian diaspora organisation has written to the President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, urging her administration to reject the possible diplomatic posting of Nigerian political commentator and former presidential aide,

In the letter, the group reportedly warned Mexican authorities about what it described as Omokri’s long record of controversial political commentary and propaganda within Nigeria’s political space. The petitioners alleged that his public engagements have frequently been marked by misinformation and inflammatory rhetoric, raising concerns about his suitability for diplomatic service.

The diaspora group argued that allowing such an appointment could potentially undermine the credibility of Nigeria’s diplomatic representation abroad and strain the image of the country in international circles. According to them, ambassadors are expected to embody integrity, restraint, and professionalism—qualities they claimed Omokri’s public record does not reflect.

They further called on Mexican authorities to carry out extensive background checks before accepting any diplomatic credentials connected to the Nigerian commentator. The group stressed that diplomacy requires individuals who can build bridges between nations rather than deepen political controversies already present within domestic politics.

The appeal comes amid heightened political tensions in Nigeria as debates over appointments, political loyalty, and the country’s global image continue to dominate public discourse ahead of the next electoral cycle.
