Davido Joins Dangote at Times Square Billboard

Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has joined Africa’s leading industrialist, Aliko Dangote, at New York’s Times Square as the Dangote Petroleum Refinery continues its international visibility campaign during its ongoing Initial Public Offering.

Davido and Dangote were seen together in front of a large digital billboard displaying the Dangote Refinery at the iconic Times Square location in Manhattan. The moment was captured on video and shared by Davido, attracting attention from Nigerians and social media users.

The billboard carries the message, “Made in Nigeria. Built for the World,” alongside images promoting the Dangote Refinery. The display forms part of the company’s effort to project its Nigerian industrial project to an international audience.

The appearance comes as the refinery’s Initial Public Offering remains open on the Nigerian capital market. The offer opened on September 14, 2026, and comprises 4.1 billion ordinary shares priced at N525 per share.

The minimum subscription is 10 shares, costing N5,250, while the offer is scheduled to close on October 13, 2026. The company has described the offering as an opportunity for wider public participation in ownership of the refinery.

The Securities and Exchange Commission has urged prospective investors to obtain information about the offer through official channels and to use only approved receiving agents and subscription platforms. The commission also warned investors against transferring money to unauthorised individuals or entities claiming to process applications.

The Times Square display had already featured Dangote Refinery executives before Davido’s appearance. Reports from September 19 showed Dangote and members of his management team at the location, where the refinery’s promotional message was displayed prominently.

The refinery’s presence in Times Square coincides with increased attention surrounding its public offering, which is regarded as Africa’s largest IPO by offer size. Reuters reported that the share sale has generated strong interest among retail investors, with some Nigerian investment platforms experiencing technical difficulties as investors attempted to subscribe.

The refinery, located in the Lekki Free Trade Zone in Lagos, has a processing capacity of about 700,000 barrels of crude oil per day. The company has also outlined plans to expand the facility’s capacity as part of its broader growth strategy.

The public offering is intended to raise capital for the refinery’s expansion programme, while the company seeks to broaden its shareholder base. According to the official IPO information, investors are required to study the prospectus and use approved channels when applying for shares.

Davido’s appearance adds a prominent entertainment figure to the refinery’s global promotional campaign, bringing together Nigeria’s music industry and one of the country’s largest private-sector industrial projects.

The Times Square moment also comes at a time when the Dangote Refinery is seeking greater visibility beyond Nigeria, with its New York billboard placing the project before an international audience.

As the IPO continues until October 13, prospective investors remain subject to the terms and risks contained in the official offer documents. The Securities and Exchange Commission has advised investors to rely on verified information and approved subscription channels before making any investment decisions.
