Abuja, Nigeria — The Coalition for the Protection of Democracy (COPDEM) has announced a significant milestone in its election monitoring drive, with its election monitoring application recording 14,334 verified polling unit monitors within just three weeks.

According to the figures released by the organisation, the platform is currently attracting more than 2,000 new sign-ups daily, with COPDEM anticipating a further increase in registrations in the coming days.
The organisation projects that daily registrations could exceed 10,000 as the mobilisation drive gathers momentum.
The growing number of registrations reflects COPDEM’s ongoing efforts to expand its nationwide network of polling unit monitors ahead of the 2027 general elections. The initiative is designed to strengthen grassroots participation, improve election-day observation and support the systematic documentation of voting and result processes at polling units across Nigeria.
COPDEM’s election monitoring platform is expected to serve as a digital coordination tool for recruiting, verifying and organising monitors, with the broader objective of improving transparency, accountability and public confidence in the electoral process.
The organisation’s target of more than 10,000 daily sign-ups, if achieved, would significantly accelerate the expansion of its monitoring network. However, the projected figure remains an anticipated milestone rather than an already achieved registration rate.
With the 2027 general elections approaching, COPDEM’s registration drive highlights the growing emphasis on technology-enabled election observation and the mobilisation of citizens to participate in safeguarding the integrity of the electoral process.
The organisation’s next major task will be to translate the growing registration figures into a fully coordinated network of trained and deployment-ready polling unit monitors capable of documenting electoral activities effectively on election day.
