*Re: Urgent Appeal for Strict Compliance with Party Guidelines and Equal Access in Congresses*
Dear Senator David Mark,
As Chairman of the COPDEM Board of Trustees, I write to respectfully appeal to you and the National Leadership of the African Democratic Congress regarding the ongoing sale of nomination forms and the conduct of Ward, LGA, and State Congresses.
It is imperative that these processes are conducted strictly in accordance with the approved party guidelines and the principles of internal democracy. In particular, I wish to emphasize the following:
1. Sale of Nomination Forms
• All forms must be sold through officially approved channels only.
• Payments should be made to designated accounts, with verified proof of payment attached to submitted forms.
• *Importantly, equal access must be guaranteed to all eligible members without discrimination or undue influence. No aspirant or member should be given unfair advantage or barred due to favoritism, position, or influence.*
2. Membership Verification
• Only duly registered and verified members, as reflected in the official party register submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), are eligible to purchase forms, nominate, or contest positions.
3. Conduct of Congresses
• Ward, LGA, and State Congresses must be conducted in strict compliance with democratic principles, including:
• Free, fair, and transparent elections
• Equal opportunity for all aspirants
• Secret balloting or approved voting methods
• Neutrality of Congress Planning Committees
• Absence of intimidation, coercion, or manipulation
4. Screening and Eligibility
• Proper screening must be conducted in line with party guidelines, and only cleared candidates should be allowed to contest positions.
Senator Mark, the credibility of ADC depends on ensuring that every member has equal and unhindered opportunity to participate. The integrity of these congresses will define the party’s democratic credentials and its ability to build trust among members and Nigerians at large.
I therefore earnestly appeal to you and the National Leadership to personally oversee and ensure that these congresses are conducted fairly, transparently, and without undue influence, upholding the highest standards of internal democracy.
