ADC Rejects INEC’s Interpretation of Court of Appeal Ruling, Alleges Political Pressure

PRESS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
1 April 2026
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has strongly rejected the interpretation of a recent Court of Appeal ruling by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), describing the electoral body’s position as contradictory, misleading, and influenced by external pressure.
In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party alleged that INEC’s stance reflects the influence of a government unsettled by the growing popularity and momentum of the ADC. The party further accused the government of orchestrating sustained efforts to weaken opposition parties and impose a one-party system on Nigeria.
According to the ADC, INEC’s interpretation of the court’s pronouncement does not align with established facts or sound reasoning. The party maintained that it would soon provide a detailed clarification to expose what it described as inconsistencies in the commission’s position.
The statement emphasized that INEC, through its actions, has effectively aligned itself against the interests of the Nigerian people by yielding to political pressure. ADC noted that it is currently reviewing its legal and political options and will communicate its next course of action in due time.
While urging calm, the party called on its members and supporters across the country to remain resolute and await further directives as the situation unfolds.
Reaffirming its confidence and political trajectory, the ADC concluded with a message of resilience and optimism:
“Nigeria is rising. ADC is rising.”
Signed:
Bolaji Abdullahi
National Publicity Secretary
African Democratic Congress (ADC)
