The National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress, Senator David Mark, has called for unity, discipline, and strategic repositioning of the party as a credible alternative to Nigeria’s current leadership.
Speaking at the party’s 2nd National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, Mark described the gathering as coming at a “critical moment” in Nigeria’s political trajectory, stressing that Nigerians are yearning for purposeful leadership anchored on equity, justice, and service to the people.
In his remarks, the former Senate President commended party leaders and stakeholders for their resilience and loyalty, noting that their sacrifices continue to strengthen the ADC’s position as a viable platform for national renewal.
Mark emphasized that the responsibility before the party goes beyond politics, describing it as both “moral and historic.” He urged members to rise above personal interests and work collectively to build a disciplined, people-oriented party grounded in democratic principles and respect for internal structures.
The ADC chairman highlighted unity as non-negotiable, warning against divisive tendencies while urging leaders to deepen consultation and reinforce confidence in party processes. He particularly applauded state chairmen for embracing dialogue despite prevailing challenges, expressing optimism that collective efforts could help “salvage Nigeria.”
On national issues, Mark painted a grim picture of the country’s security situation, describing insecurity, kidnapping, and widespread violence as having become the “new normal.” He criticized the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing it of incompetence and failure to effectively address the nation’s security challenges.
According to him, the ADC is prepared to offer a different approach to governance, one that prioritizes safety, stability, and improved living conditions for Nigerians.
He further called for expanded grassroots engagement and strategic collaboration with like-minded groups and individuals, stressing that the time for constructive alliances aimed at national rescue is now.
“As we deliberate, our decisions must reflect the aspirations of millions of Nigerians who look to the ADC as a beacon of hope,” Mark stated.
He concluded by urging members to remain steadfast and committed, expressing confidence that with unity and discipline, the party can achieve victory in its mission to reposition Nigeria.
The NEC meeting is part of ongoing efforts by the ADC to consolidate its internal structures and prepare for future political engagements amid growing public dissatisfaction with governance in the country.
