ADC Factional Chairman Nafiu Bala Denies Resignation, Alleges Forgery

A fresh leadership crisis has emerged within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as factional national chairman Nafiu Bala has disowned a purported resignation letter, claiming his signature was forged.

The controversy began after a letter surfaced indicating that Bala had stepped down from his position as deputy national chairman of the party. However, Bala has publicly rejected the document, insisting that he neither authored nor authorized the resignation.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) confirmed that it received the resignation letter from the ADC. Nonetheless, the commission noted that Bala subsequently notified it that the letter was not genuine and did not originate from him.

The development underscores deepening internal divisions within the ADC, as rival factions continue to lay claim to the party’s leadership structure. The situation was further complicated by Bala’s appearance at a recent party convention, despite the alleged resignation.

Political analysts say the conflicting claims could escalate the party’s ongoing legal and administrative challenges, raising concerns about its readiness for upcoming electoral activities.

As the dispute unfolds, attention is expected to focus on how INEC and the courts will address the competing claims and determine the legitimate leadership of the party.
