The National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), David Mark, has called for unity, discipline, and renewed commitment among party leaders as the opposition party positions itself as a credible alternative ahead of future elections.
Speaking at the party’s 2nd National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on Wednesday, Mark emphasized the need for cohesion within the party, describing the current political moment as both “critical” and “historic” for Nigeria and the ADC.
He commended party members for their loyalty and sacrifices, noting that their dedication continues to strengthen the ADC’s prospects as a platform for national leadership. According to him, Nigerians are increasingly demanding purposeful governance, equity, and justice, placing a moral responsibility on the party to rise to the occasion.
Mark urged members to set aside personal interests and focus on building a strong, people-oriented political structure anchored on democratic principles and respect for party institutions. He stressed that internal unity remains non-negotiable, calling on stakeholders to deepen consultations and reinforce confidence in party leadership.
The ADC chairman also highlighted the need to expand grassroots engagement and strengthen internal mechanisms, with the aim of repositioning the party for broader national appeal. He praised state chairmen for embracing dialogue and consultation despite challenges, expressing optimism that collective efforts could “salvage Nigeria.”
Addressing national issues, Mark raised concerns over worsening insecurity, including kidnapping and violence, which he described as becoming widespread across the country. He criticized the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing it of failing to effectively tackle the security situation.
He stated that the ADC is prepared to offer a different approach to governance, promising improved security and a safer society if given the opportunity. He also called for collaboration with like-minded individuals and groups to address Nigeria’s challenges through strategic partnerships.
Mark concluded by urging party members to approach deliberations with patriotism and a shared vision, expressing confidence that unity and commitment would lead to success in the party’s political journey.
