Abia Governor Otti Signals Support for Tinubu’s 2027 Re-election Bid

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has stated that he will not oppose President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general election, citing practical considerations tied to his own political ambitions and governance priorities.

Speaking on the issue, Otti explained that as a sitting governor seeking a second term, it would be counterproductive to challenge the incumbent president. He emphasized that governance in Nigeria transcends party affiliations, noting that administrations at both state and federal levels operate as one system regardless of whether they belong to parties such as the APC or PDP.

The governor also dismissed ongoing speculation about a possible defection from the Labour Party, clarifying that internal disputes within the party have already been resolved through decisions by the Supreme Court and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). According to him, the party has since resumed its normal processes.

Otti’s comments align with earlier remarks by federal lawmaker Ginger Onwusibe and reflect the fluid nature of Nigeria’s political landscape, where alliances often shift based on strategic considerations.

Analysts say the governor’s stance may also signal growing political momentum for President Tinubu ahead of 2027, amid visible displays of support such as large political gatherings and campaign mobilization activities in Abuja.

The development underscores how state-level leaders are increasingly prioritizing governance continuity while navigating the evolving dynamics of national politics.
