Benue Governor Alia Appeals for Calm After Reported Killing of Miyetti Allah Chairman

Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia has appealed to residents to remain calm following the reported killing of a chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association in the state.

In a statement issued by the state government, Governor Alia described the incident as unfortunate and condemned all forms of violence capable of threatening the peace and stability of Benue State. He expressed sympathy to the family of the deceased and urged residents to refrain from actions that could escalate tensions.

The governor assured the public that security agencies had been directed to investigate the circumstances surrounding the killing and ensure that those responsible are identified and brought to justice. He emphasized that the government remains committed to protecting lives and property regardless of ethnic, religious, or political affiliations.

Governor Alia also called on community leaders, youth groups, and stakeholders to support ongoing peace-building efforts by promoting dialogue and cooperation. He stressed that maintaining law and order requires collective responsibility and urged citizens to provide useful information that could assist security agencies in their investigations.

The incident has heightened concerns over security in parts of Benue State, where clashes involving farmers, herders, and criminal groups have contributed to recurring violence in recent years. Authorities have repeatedly called for peaceful coexistence while intensifying security operations in affected communities.

The state government reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening collaboration with federal security agencies and local communities to prevent further violence and improve public safety. Officials noted that additional measures are being implemented to enhance intelligence gathering and rapid response to security threats across the state.

Security analysts say prompt investigations and transparent justice processes are essential to preventing reprisals and restoring public confidence following violent incidents. They also urged residents to avoid spreading unverified information that could inflame tensions.

Governor Alia reiterated that Benue remains committed to peace, justice, and the rule of law. He urged citizens to remain vigilant, cooperate with security agencies, and allow the investigation to run its course.

The appeal comes as stakeholders continue to advocate peaceful conflict resolution and stronger security measures aimed at safeguarding lives and fostering lasting stability across Benue State.
