BREAKING: Obi, Kwankwaso Leave ADC for NDC, Eye 2027 Presidential Race

In a major political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections, prominent opposition figures Peter Obi and Musa Rabiu Kwankwaso have formally resigned from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and will today join the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC). The move, long speculated despite repeated denials, was confirmed in an official invitation circulated to journalists via the NDC Media WhatsApp Group.

According to the announcement, the high-profile defection will be made official at a declaration event scheduled for 2:00pm in Abuja. Obi and Kwankwaso will be received by leading NDC figures, including National Leader and former Bayelsa State Governor Henry Seriake Dickson, National Chairman Moses Cleopas, and members of the NDC National Working Committee (NWC).

Party leaders have hailed the defections as a sign of growing national confidence in the NDC, positioning the party as a key contender in the 2027 presidential race. The entry of Obi and Kwankwaso—two widely recognized and influential politicians—marks a significant shift in Nigeria’s opposition landscape, potentially reshaping alliances and strategies as the country moves closer to another major electoral contest.

Further details are expected to be announced at the Abuja event later today.
