2027: Tinubu to walk alone as ADC Gains Momentum as 21 Reps Members Defect Nationwide

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has recorded a significant political boost following the defection of 21 serving members of the House of Representatives from various political parties across the country.
The wave of defections, cutting across the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), All Progressives Congress (APC), Labour Party (LP), and Young Progressives Party (YPP), signals an emerging political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.
State-by-State Breakdown
Sokoto State witnessed four defections from the PDP, including Abdussamad Dasuki (Kebbe/Tambuwal), Mani Maishinko Katami (Binji/Silame), Umar Yusuf Yabo (Yabo/Shagari), and Bashir Gorau (Goronyo/Gada).
In Kaduna State, six lawmakers switched allegiance to the ADC. Among them is Bello El-Rufai (Kaduna North), alongside Mustapha Abdullahi, Umar Ajilo, Mustapha Muhammad Yariman Damau, Engr. Suleiman Yahaya Richifa, and Bashir Zubairu—defecting from both the APC and PDP.
Anambra State accounted for the highest number of defections, with six lawmakers leaving the LP and YPP for the ADC. They include George Ozodinobi, Harris Okonkwo, Peter Uzokwe, Afam Ogene, Peter Aniekwe, and Lilian Orogbu.
In Lagos State, two LP lawmakers—Seyi Sowunmi (Ojo) and Jessey Onakalusi (Oshodi-Isolo II)—also joined the ADC.
Other notable defections include Yaya Tongo (Gombe, PDP), Philip Agbese (Benue, APC), and Murphy Osaro (Edo, LP).

Reacting to the development, the Non-Indigene Rivers State chapter of the ADC, under High Chief Amb Mike Oyiakhire, welcomed the new entrants and called for unity in efforts toward national transformation.
Political analysts say the growing influx into the ADC may reshape opposition dynamics, particularly as internal crises continue to affect major parties and coalition talks intensify nationwide.
