Peter Obi’s Casual Stop at Kano Chicken Republic Draws Crowd and Attention

Former Anambra Governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, now a member of the African Democratic Congress, attracted a crowd during a casual visit to Chicken Republic in Kano on Monday.

Videos circulating online showed Obi dressed in a patterned shirt and glasses, holding a tray as he enjoyed his meal amid the eatery’s busy atmosphere. Photographer Esther Umoh highlighted the visit, suggesting that such engagement reflects how businesses could thrive under his leadership.

Outside the fast-food outlet, a small crowd waved banners and chanted “Obi for Nigeria,” praising his approachable style. Some critics, however, described the attention as overhyped.

The stop comes as part of Obi’s ongoing engagements in Kano, where he has pledged to revive local industries and met with opposition figures including Rabiu Kwankwaso. Observers say the visit underscores his continued efforts to connect with ordinary Nigerians ahead of upcoming political activities.
