Soludo Appoints Tobechukwu Nweke SAN as Anambra Attorney General

The Governor of Anambra State, Charles Soludo, has appointed Tobechukwu Nweke as the new Attorney General of the state. The appointment was officially announced on March 24, 2026.

Nweke, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and chartered arbitrator, hails from Nsugbe in Anambra East Local Government Area. He brings to the role a wealth of legal expertise and a distinguished career spanning litigation, arbitration, and public service.

He obtained his law degree from the University of Nigeria in 2008 and proceeded to the Nigerian Law School, where he was called to the Bar in November 2009 as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria. Further strengthening his academic credentials, he holds a Master of Laws (LLM) from Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University.

In pursuit of continuous professional development, Nweke has undertaken international training, including a course in Project Risk Management at the University of Oxford in 2025, and a course in Contract Law at Harvard University in 2026. His expertise in arbitration earned him the prestigious Fellow status of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators in 2023.

Nweke began his legal career at the law firm of Dr. Onyechi Ikpeazu SAN & Co. in Abuja during his National Youth Service from 2009 to 2010. He was subsequently retained and rose rapidly to become Managing Solicitor by 2013. Over the years, he has built a strong reputation, handling landmark cases that have contributed to Nigeria’s legal jurisprudence.

In recognition of his excellence, he was elevated to the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria in September 2024 at the age of 39, making him one of the youngest SANs in the country and the youngest from Anambra State.

Before this appointment, Nweke served as Special Adviser to the Governor on Legal Matters, a position he held since 2022. His elevation to Attorney General marks a historic moment, as it is the first time in 20 years that a SAN will occupy the office in Anambra State, since Nnoruka Udechukwu served between 2003 and 2006.

The appointment has been widely praised by stakeholders, with many commending Governor Soludo for prioritizing merit and professional competence in filling such a critical position within the state’s justice system.
