A United States political commentator, , has stirred debate on the international stage after alleging that Nigeria’s elections have been systematically manipulated for decades and warning that the situation could persist in the lead-up to the 2027 general elections.
Arnold, in a strongly worded statement circulating on social media and political forums, claimed that the electoral process in has long been compromised. According to him, unless the United States and the wider international community take a more proactive stance, the next election cycle could again be influenced by the ruling (APC) led by President .
Arnold argued that the issue goes beyond electoral malpractice, stressing that Nigeria’s democratic integrity carries global implications due to the country’s size, youth population, and economic potential.
“Nigeria’s elections are rigged. They’ve been rigged for decades. And unless America acts, they’ll be rigged again in 2027 by the Tinubu-led APC government,” Arnold stated.
He emphasized that Nigeria’s population of over 220 million people represents one of the most dynamic demographics in the world, noting that nearly 60 percent of Nigerians are under the age of 25. According to him, the country also boasts one of Africa’s highest rates of entrepreneurship, a rapidly expanding technology sector, and a diaspora community that sends an estimated $20 billion annually back home.
Arnold maintained that a credible and transparent election could unlock the country’s enormous potential and reshape the trajectory of Africa’s largest nation.
“Give these people a free election and they will change the trajectory of the largest nation in Africa,” he said, warning that continued electoral manipulation could deepen political instability, corruption, and violence.
His remarks have already begun to spark mixed reactions among political observers, with some viewing the comments as an external call for democratic accountability, while others argue that Nigeria’s electoral processes remain an internal sovereign matter.
Nigeria is expected to hold its next general elections in 2027, a contest that many analysts believe will be pivotal for the country’s democratic evolution and political stability.
