Davido Reacts to Peter Obi’s Wealth Disclosure: ‘None of Them Can Try It’

Afrobeats superstar Davido has reacted to a video of Peter Obi detailing his business and banking background, challenging Nigerian politicians to account publicly for how they acquired their wealth.
The video, shared on X by journalist Rufai Oseni, featured Obi discussing his business career before entering politics. Oseni accompanied the clip with a question directed at Nigerian politicians: “Can every Nigerian politician tell us how they made their money like this?”
In the video, Obi displayed an American Express Platinum Card and explained that the card was introduced in 1987 for a select group of about 5,000 people.
He went on to outline some of his business interests, saying he operated a planned market management company and was the sole importer of Heinz salad cream at one point. He also said he was involved in the importation of Ovaltine and wine, describing himself as a major trader during his business years.
Obi further spoke about his involvement with South African Breweries, as well as his transition from trading and business into banking. According to him, he served on the boards of three banks and became chairman of one of them, while also holding significant shares in the financial institutions.
He said that before venturing into politics, he had accumulated substantial business experience and wealth. Obi also recalled transferring one of his businesses to his brother, who subsequently took over the operation and paid him off. He said the business eventually became Next Cash and Carry, with outlets in Port Harcourt and Abuja.
The former Anambra State governor said his entry into politics came at a financial cost, arguing that he became poorer after leaving the business world for public service.
Despite the financial sacrifice, Obi maintained that he had no regrets about entering politics.
Davido, reacting to Oseni’s post containing the video, appeared to question whether other Nigerian politicians would be able to provide a similarly detailed account of their financial backgrounds.
The music star simply wrote:
“None of them can try it 😂😂”
The comment has since drawn attention online, with the exchange renewing debate over transparency, wealth accumulation and the financial backgrounds of Nigerian political office holders.
