Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has revealed his disappointment with the manner in which his side conceded against Chelsea, despite the Gunners completing a 2-1 comeback victory in their Premier League clash at the Emirates Stadium.
Chelsea stunned the home crowd when Morgan Rogers scored inside the opening two minutes, capitalising on Arsenal’s slow start. Arteta admitted after the match that he was unhappy with the way his players allowed the visitors to take an early advantage.
“I feel a great sense of disappointment at the way we conceded the goal,” Arteta told Sky Sports, while also giving credit to Rogers for the quality of his finish.
However, Arsenal quickly recovered from the setback. Kai Havertz equalised before captain Martin Ødegaard completed the turnaround, securing Arsenal’s third consecutive Premier League victory of the season.
Arteta was particularly pleased with how his players responded after falling behind. He described the overall display as “exceptional” and praised the team’s determination, quality and ability to compete against a strong Chelsea side.
The victory was important for Arsenal because it preserved their perfect start to the 2026/27 Premier League campaign. The Gunners have now won all three of their opening league matches and remain among the early title contenders.
Arteta also highlighted the need for greater attacking intent and effectiveness from his players, suggesting that Arsenal still have room for improvement despite the positive result.
The result also underlined the competitive nature of the London rivalry, with Arsenal showing the resilience required to recover from an early setback against a Chelsea team beginning a new era under manager Xabi Alonso.
