Nigerian-British businessman and social media personality Igho “Tiny” Ubiribo, popularly known as Ego, has died following complications from a cosmetic penis enlargement procedure carried out in Thailand.
Ubiribo, 43, died in March after undergoing the procedure at a clinic in Bangkok. Details surrounding his death were disclosed during an inquest at the Inner West London Coroners’ Court, where the procedure and subsequent medical complications were examined.
According to reports presented at the inquest, Ubiribo received 40 millilitres of hyaluronic acid and lidocaine during the procedure. He later experienced chest pain and lost consciousness twice while receiving a massage with his wife, Danielle Simba Allen.
He was rushed to Sukhumvit Hospital, where doctors identified a pulmonary embolism, a potentially life-threatening blockage in a blood vessel supplying the lungs. Medical personnel reportedly attempted resuscitation for more than 100 minutes, but he died in the early hours of March 6.
A postmortem examination conducted in the United Kingdom reportedly found cellular material in his lungs matching the hyaluronic acid used during the procedure. Coroner Jean Harkin subsequently concluded that Ubiribo died from a pulmonary embolism resulting from the cosmetic treatment.
The case has renewed attention on the potential risks associated with cosmetic procedures, particularly those performed abroad. Medical specialists have previously warned that complications from penile filler treatments can be severe.
Ubiribo was widely known for his lavish lifestyle and connections within Nigeria’s entertainment industry. He was reportedly close to Afrobeats star Davido, who attended his funeral in London.
