Abdulaziz Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, eldest son of former Kano State Governor and former All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has returned to the APC after spending about three months with the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Abdulaziz announced his return to the ruling party on Sunday in Ganduje, Kano State, marking a significant shift in his political journey ahead of the 2027 general elections. Reports said he was seen receiving an APC membership or registration form during a ceremony attended by party supporters.
His move comes only months after he joined the NDC and obtained the party’s nomination form to contest the Dawakin Tofa/Tofa/Rimin Gado Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives.
The defection is attracting attention because of Abdulaziz’s reported political association with former Kano Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, a longtime political rival of his father. His earlier decision to join the NDC was therefore viewed as an unusual political development within Kano’s highly competitive political landscape.
Reports indicate that Abdulaziz’s return to the APC followed difficulties surrounding his bid to secure the NDC ticket for the federal constituency.
The development could have implications for the emerging political alignments in Kano ahead of 2027, particularly as major parties and opposition groups seek to strengthen their structures and attract influential politicians.
Abdullahi Ganduje remains a prominent APC figure after serving as Kano governor from 2015 to 2023 and later becoming national chairman of the party.
