The inaugural meeting of the NDC Diaspora Middle East Region, held on August 7, 2026, received valuable contributions from chapter leaders and members of the regional executive, whose participation helped drive the meeting to a successful conclusion.
Among the stakeholders who played notable roles were Mr Nkemdirichi Maduadugwo, Chairman of NDC Qatar, and Mr Chris Mbazuigwe, Chairman of NDC Thailand. Both chapter leaders participated in the proceedings and provided updates on their respective structures, while reaffirming their commitment to strengthening NDC’s diaspora mobilisation efforts.
Other members of the Middle East and Saudi Arabia executive who contributed to the meeting included Dr Anefu Mgbede, General Secretary, and Dr Orjiakor Samuel, Organising Secretary, alongside several other members of the executive and country structures.
Their participation added depth to discussions on membership mobilisation, organisational expansion, coordination among country chapters and preparations for the forthcoming electoral campaign.
The meeting, which commenced at about 5:00 p.m. Nigerian time and ended around 7:00 p.m., brought together NDC representatives and supporters from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Thailand and other countries across the Middle East and Southeast Asia.
The meeting also featured the participation of Princess Mariam Tolafari, Director-General of NDC Diaspora, who joined the session and addressed participants before network difficulties reportedly interrupted her contribution.
The regional coordinator, Dr Ben Chukwu, subsequently presented an overview of the development of NDC structures across the region, identifying countries including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, Oman, Kuwait, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Japan.
According to Chukwu, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Malaysia and Thailand currently have some of the more active structures, while efforts are continuing to strengthen membership and organisational capacity in other countries.
The meeting placed particular emphasis on expanding membership and building a coordinated diaspora network capable of supporting campaign activities and electoral mobilisation in Nigeria.
Participants also discussed the importance of encouraging more Nigerians in the diaspora to become actively involved in the political process and supporting initiatives aimed at mobilising voters and protecting electoral results.
The contributions of the country chairmen, regional executives and other participants were therefore described as an important part of the success of the first NDC Diaspora Middle East regional meeting.
The meeting ended with participants expressing enthusiasm and commitment to strengthening the regional structures and contributing to the party’s preparations for the forthcoming election.
The gathering effectively underscored the growing effort to organise Nigerians across the Middle East and Southeast Asia into a coordinated diaspora political network, with country chapters working collectively toward shared political objectives.
