Former Minister of Finance Kemi Adeosun is mourning the loss of her husband, Anthony Adeniyi Adeosun, whose death was announced by the family on Wednesday. He was 62 years old.
The announcement was contained in a statement signed by C. A. Adeosun on behalf of the family, confirming that Anthony Adeosun passed away in Lagos. While the statement did not disclose the circumstances surrounding his death, it noted that he is survived by his wife, children and other close family members.
Among his surviving siblings is Adewale Adeosun, the founder of investment firm Kuramo Capital.
Describing the loss as deeply painful, the family appealed to the public for privacy as they navigate the difficult period of mourning. They also expressed gratitude to friends, relatives and well-wishers who have extended messages of sympathy and support since news of his passing emerged.
Drawing strength from their Christian faith, the family quoted Revelation 14:13, which states: “Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord… that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.”
According to the statement, details of the funeral and Christian burial arrangements will be announced at a later date.
The passing of Anthony Adeosun has attracted condolences from members of Nigeria’s political, business and financial communities, many of whom have sympathised with the former finance minister and her family.
Kemi Adeosun served as Nigeria’s Minister of Finance from 2015 to 2018 under the administration of the late President Muhammadu Buhari. During her tenure, she oversaw key fiscal and economic policies aimed at supporting the country’s recovery from recession and improving public financial management.
Although Anthony Adeosun largely maintained a private life away from public office, his passing marks a significant personal loss for the former minister and her family.
