2027 Alh. Atiku Abubakar devastated by backlashes over son’s defection to APC

Few days ago, Abba Atiku Abubakar (the son of Alh. Atiku Abubakar) deflected from the People’s Democratic Party PDP into the All Progressive Congress APC in a political alignment that has gained National criticism as many viewed it as a negative omen for someone like Alh. Atiku Abubakar who project himsel as the leader of the opposition and many believed he should have a strong influence within his family.

According Alh. Atiku Abubakar post on X, “The decision of my son, Abba Abubakar, to join the APC is entirely personal. In a democracy, such choices are neither unusual nor alarming, even when family and politics intersect. As a democrat, I do not coerce my own children in matters of conscience, and I certainly will not coerce Nigerians. What truly concerns me is the poor governance of the APC and the severe economic and social hardships it has imposed on our people. I remain resolute in working with like-minded patriots to restore good governance and offer Nigerians a credible alternative that brings relief, hope, and progress. –AA”

Following the above post, Nigerians rushed to his X handle to react:

@DueProcessWorld wrote: “Your son has learned to manifest the father’s age-long tricks  Like father; like son  No supporter can be more Atikulate than ur son. He understands you better and he’s living the dream of his father; what goes around, comes around  Atiku, just park well make we see road”

@Acemanel replied “We did not request your explanation  Whatever your son does is not our concern just support  Tanbuwal “

@JesusOverNaija replied “Dear Waziri, this is very terrible optics. It means that your son has more confidence in the man who has destroyed Nigeria beyond imagination than he does in you, who says you have what it takes to turn things around in Nigeria and for Nigerians. “

@sweetsixteen replied “Your own child doesn’t believe in you. He went to support a shady character that has ruined this country instead of you. Same as your supporters, dem run go APC . Please oga Atiku, stop giving room for Tinubu!! Step away! Anyway, just support PO.”

@Realqueenbee_ replied “If your son chooses to support Bola Tinubu instead of you then there’s a problem. Therefore I cannot support you in good conscience.” “Where’s Dele Momodu in all of these? Does he know Atiku more than his son?”

@ObidientPremier replied “Apart from your APC indirect alignment Sir, age is on your side, we will consider age before voting in 2027. Any candidate above 70 will not be voted for.”

@lekside34 replied “Your pickin joined the most evil party @OfficialAPCNg, you couldn’t convince him well enough not to if he got any respect for you and you want sensible Nigerians to vote for you right???  If you are an honorable person, you will take the back seat and support Obi all the way…  That is the right thing to do. Do it asap!”

@Harmless12345 replied “Why is your son leaving you? Is he not confident in your mission and vision? You no dey see Seyi Tinubu and him papa??”

@trigottista replied “Your son knows you better than the rest of us”

@DEGE07 replied “This is not only a slap on your face, but a solemn call to reality.

If you truly are a democrat, you should learn to know when the people don’t want you to govern them, and step aside for a person of their choosing.

This is a clear indication that your son does not believe in your abilities, a decision I believe is drawn from his first hand experience of how your leadership feels, even on a scale as small as a family.

Please sir, take the bold step of writing your name on the sands of time by throwing your full support behind a candidate that the people want, love and trust as your decision will be counted to you as core patriotism.

Thank you.

-A.O. Yusuf”

@stevejioff replied “This ENDS it all. If your Son does NOT support your ambition then that’s an INDICTMENT that you are NOT good to be President of Nigeria . Sir, the honorable thing to do is END your ambition”

@DrCharlseOdogwu “ At least, ADC can now see who is working for APC/Tinubu.”

@Odera_Odego replied “If you can’t lead or influence your son, how will you lead our influence 200M+ Nigerians? The answer is simple, with all due respect, you don’t have what it takes. The best course of actin is to support a younger and a more credible candidate who has the love, trust and backing of the people. History will be kind to you for not being selfish and shortsighted.
