Wike-APC Governors Rift: Aisha Yesufu Criticises Tinubu’s Leadership

Rights activist Aisha Yesufu has criticised President Bola Tinubu over the growing disagreement between Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Yesufu made the remarks while reacting to the political tensions surrounding Wike and the Progressive Governors Forum. The dispute has intensified discussions within the ruling party as political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections gather momentum.

The activist questioned Tinubu’s ability to manage disagreements involving members of his administration and the ruling party. In a post on X, she said the president had been unable to control party members and political appointees who were publicly confronting one another.

“Mr Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been unable to control his party members and appointees,” Yesufu wrote, adding that the situation reflected what she described as an “abysmally disastrous” leadership.

Her comments came against the backdrop of a public disagreement between Wike and APC governors over political developments in Rivers State. The governors had criticised the Rivers State Rainbow Coalition associated with Wike and warned about its potential political implications ahead of the 2027 elections.

Wike subsequently criticised the APC governors, describing them as “lazy politicians” in remarks reported amid the escalating disagreement. The dispute has prompted reactions from several political figures, including former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose and former federal lawmaker Abdulmumin Jibrin.

The disagreement is significant because Wike remains a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) while serving as a minister in Tinubu’s administration. His political activities and relationship with the ruling party have continued to attract attention as parties prepare for the 2027 elections.

The latest controversy also highlights broader tensions within Nigeria’s political landscape, where party alliances, defections and competing interests are increasingly shaping discussions ahead of the next general election.

As political activity intensifies, further statements from Tinubu, Wike and APC leaders are expected to influence the direction of the ongoing debate within the ruling party.
