Delta State Commissioner for Works and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, has criticised former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege over his approach to the 2027 election campaign, arguing that the politician has yet to clearly present his plans to voters.
Aniagwu made the comments during an interview on Arise News’ The Morning Show while responding to Omo-Agege’s allegations that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori was allegedly behind threats to his life.
The commissioner questioned why Omo-Agege, who is seeking to return to the Senate to represent Delta Central, was focusing his campaign on allegations against Oborevwori instead of outlining his legislative agenda.
According to Aniagwu, the two politicians are contesting different positions in the 2027 election. While Oborevwori is seeking another term as governor, Omo-Agege is campaigning for the Delta Central senatorial seat.
“What we have observed is that a number of these persons, particularly Senator Omo-Agege, don’t seem to have anything to campaign against Governor Oborevwori,” Aniagwu said.
He also dismissed Omo-Agege’s allegations against the governor, describing them as inconsistent with the character of the Oborevwori administration. Aniagwu said the state had experienced relative peace and security under the governor.
The exchange highlights the increasingly competitive political atmosphere in Delta State as politicians position themselves ahead of the 2027 elections. Public disagreements between government officials and opposition figures are likely to intensify as campaigns gather momentum.
Aniagwu further argued that Oborevwori would rely on his administration’s record and the implementation of its development agenda to seek voters’ support.
Omo-Agege, a former senator for Delta Central and former Deputy Senate President, has remained an influential figure in Delta politics. He contested the 2023 governorship election against Oborevwori, who won the poll.
With the 2027 election approaching, the political contest in Delta is expected to increasingly centre on candidates’ records, campaign promises and proposed solutions to issues affecting residents.
